Course Overview

This course is applicable to Supervisors role in all industries and is a Section 26 requirement for all Mining Supervisors.

These 2 x Nationally recognised Units of Competency will provide participants with the core WHS skills and knowledge required by Supervisors in the workplace.

Our course is a participation course including group discussion and problem solving activities. We facilitate only with extremely knowledgable Facilitators, to lead participants through key knowledge areas in discussions of actual WHS scenarios. This learning style has been very successful with our Safety Representative training and breaks down the WHS concepts to enable understanding and direct application of knowledge to workplace scenarios. Participants are eabled to explore, learn and then practice their skills with scenario solving in a focussed and inclusive environment.

The safety skills and knowledge in this course apply to all industries. These units are appropriate for Supervisor/Managers roles at worksites within Civil Construction, Coal Mining, Drilling, Extractive, and Metalliferous Mining Industries, but equally extend to Supervisor roles in all industries. 

Course Content

This course includes training and information on:

  • Performing the safety duties and position safety requirements of a Mine Supervisor as prescribed under Mining Safety and Health Act
  • Conducting safety inspections
  • Supervising the safety of all the workers within the mine site operations
  • Knowledge of WHS policies and procedures
  • Ensuring all risk assessments are being carried in accordance the policies of the organisation
  • Developing site operational procedures
  • Making sure all safety measures, guidelines and regulations are being carefully followed
  • Contributing to incident investigations
  • Reporting any breaches of safety or identifying hazards to the site managers
  • Implementing safety plans and manage emergencies safely and efficiently
  • Developing good working relationships with operational, technical and maintenance teams
  • Developing induction programs to train new and existing workers.
  • Supporting your team to work in safe environments without additional impact
  • Understanding risk management concepts and be able to perform risk assessments in accordance with the hierarchy of control
  • Understanding appropriate and effective methods of communication

Delivery Location

This course is delivered at our location in Welshpool or on-site at your location if preferred (minimum number of participants required for on-site training).

Pre-Requisite Information

  • Demonstrate Basic English Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Wear appropriate work attire for the work environment
  • Evidence - 1 x photographic I.D.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit a Statement of Attainment will be issued including the units 'BSBWHS411 Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs and BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management'.

These 2 units contribute directly towards a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. Attendees may choose to complete remaining 8 units required to attain the BSB40419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety at additional cost. Training Momentum offer a direct pathway to complete the remaining units.

Training Momentum Pty Ltd trading as Scorpion Learning Centre, deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with IPS Institute RTO #32186. IPS Institute issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 days.
